<p>56 is designed for either 4 players, with 2 players forming a team, or 6 players, with 3 players forming a team. The game utilizes a deck of 48 cards selected from 2 standard 56-card decks, providing each player with a hand of 12 cards in a 4-player game or 8 cards in a 6-player game. The cards belong to the traditional "French" suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. The objective is to win tricks with high-value cards, where Jacks and Nines hold the most value at 3 and 2 points respectively, followed by Aces and Tens at 1 point each, and Kings and Queens at 0 points. '56' involves double cards, meaning there are two of each card in the deck. The game derives its name from the fact that the total value of all cards used amounts to 56.</p>
